New Patent Pilot Program Announced for Canadian SMEs

Great news for all SMEs! The Canadian Government has recently launched a Patent Collective Pilot Program aimed to support small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with their intellectual property needs. If chosen, applicants will receive a share of $30 million in funding over four years to launch a non-profit organization that will work with companies in a selected sector to help them deploy their intellectual property more strategically.

The Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, Navdeep Bains is the pioneer of this unique program. According to Bains, intellectual property is at the core of innovative Canadian businesses and serves as an imperative factor to ensure the future growth of the Canadian economy.

A key aim of this initiative is to provide small- and medium-sized enterprises with the intellectual property support that can be leveraged to expand their businesses, uplift the economy and become globally competitive.

Despite the availability of such excellent initiatives and programs, Canadian SMEs continue to find it challenging to navigate through such opportunities and often miss out on them.
